National Community Pharmacists Association

Community CCRxSM PDP

In 2005, NCPA collaborated with MemberHealth, LLC, part of the Universal American family of companies, in the design of Community CCRxSM, Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. As an innovative Part D prescription drug plan, Community CCRx recognizes the value of the pharmacist-patient relationship and proudly serves Medicare beneficiaries in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Community CCRx was founded on a key principle of aligning the interests of the patient, pharmacist, and the plan to produce the best outcomes-both in terms of patient care and cost. It continues to engage pharmacists in the delivery of high-touch, high-quality health care based on these core values:

  • 90 Days at Retail/No Mail Order
Community CCRx believes in delivering prescription drugs through community retail pharmacies-not mail order.

  • Incentive Program for Pharmacy
Community CCRx utilizes benefit designs that encourage the use of cost-saving generic medications when appropriate for the member and was the first Part D plan to announce an Incentive Program for pharmacies to promote the appropriate use of generic and maintenance supply medications.
  • Medication Therapy Management
Community CCRx values the importance of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and other pharmacist-delivered patient care services offered through the MirixaProSM platform.
  • Strong Formulary
A plan developed to tie community pharmacists with their patients, Community CCRx is proud to offer a broad formulary that covers the diverse needs of its members.
  • The Power of Community CCRx
Medicare patients can now benefit from Medicare Advantage health plans that are powered by the Community CCRx drug benefit.
  • Prompt Pay
Community CCRx is fully compliant with the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, which requires all Medicare plan sponsors to pay retail pharmacies within 14 days (or 30 days for claims not submitted electronically). In addition, they are including long-term care pharmacy claims and claims for Part B drugs (such as certain oral anti-cancer and anti-emetic drugs, and certain vaccines) on the new prompt pay schedule.
  • Open Dialogue
Community CCRx maintains open and direct dialogue with community pharmacists through its relationship with NCPA, hosting town hall calls/Web casts and publishing a weekly electronic newsletter. These vehicles keep the lines of communication open and meaningful.
